I have to double check my measurements as OP says trim an inch but you ended up 1.7 inches down, I may try to hammer out the arm from the clamp using a thin flat head and a mini sledge as it seems you didn't have to trim much off the clamp to get it to release, trim, touch up paint, and then hammer the arm back in the clamp and secure with JB weld in the recess between arm and clamp.
