The e53 doesn't have the anti-theft radio "code" (BMW ended that with the debut of the e38/e39/e46/e52/e53)...the only CODE you can enter would be the one that was entered by someone (any number between 0000-9999). Did you or someone enter a code before you removed the battery?
The old BMW anti-theft radios ended with the e38/e39/e46/e52/e53 generation where each model has their own MID or Nav screen that fits the dash...along with the radio receiver being built into the in-dash cassette or in-dash CD player (which again only fits into a specific model (e39/e53 MID & in-dash cass/CD being the exception)...and the radio receiver being a total separate unit located in the rear of the vehicle if onBoard navigation was optioned.
If someone didn't set the OBC code...then turn to the nav's owners manual where it discusses what you are seeing. You may need to follow what you see in the screen (see highlighted text in your quote above). Again, the manual will tell you what to do with that 10 minute countdown.
Yes, I'm being vague because it has to do with deactivation of a security feature...and to prevent the work around from being easily found doing a google search (probably too late for that)...just follow the instructions in the manual as to what to do after the 10 minute countdown.
