I noticed a week ago that my viscous fan clutch was definitely not acting viscous anymore. That tell tale roar full time in normal driving. Sure enough, locked up solid.
Went to order up a replacement and noted the redesigned replacement meant ordering new fan too. A no brainer, but intriguing.
Well, the new goodies showed up today, and holy cooling, Batman, what a design difference. Swapping the assembly took maybe 10 min all in, so I probably doubled that by taking a couple of pics.
FYI these are Behr parts if any readers are interested. About 2 bills for the 2 pieces from Pelican.
Oh, and in a moment of irreverence to the manufacturer, I used my handy dandy GM Performance Parts 1 1/4 wrench.(I know, seriously?). Hell, I dunno who makes the tool, but yeah, there ya go.
I think if I had seen what the redesigned parts were, I'd have replaced the fan regardless of the fan clutch failure.
Word.
