I have to say, if I was roaming those parts in 1790 I probably would have wanted a firearm as well.
So George Washington appears to have been promoting independent arms factories, particularly for essential military supplies. He goes on to talk about the troops required to maintain the peace. And he also said that the people needed to be disciplined (presumably in their use of the firearms).
Are current (existing or proposed) firearms regulations considered to be part of that discipline of which he spoke?
