I am wondering if the E70 is similar in terms:
- Reliability
- Ease of service by a DIYer?
I know a mechanic with an E53 and he's done work on my E70. When I asked him that same question he said "about the same" in terms of ease (or lack) of service. I can't speak to reliability since I've not owned an E53.

I bought mine with 30K miles in 2012 and have added another 43K. The things I've had to do have 90% been expected maintenance....brakes, filters, oil, brake fluid, spark plugs, etc. The "gotcha" item I got hit with was the electric water pump around 50K that crapped out. That was an $800 repair. From what I read here and on bimmerfest, this seems to be a common problem on these models when you get to around the 50K mark.
