SJ: When I was a kid, circa '50s,
-We played "army", cowboys&Indians", etc. with amazingly real looking replica guns, Daisy air guns and fookin revolver cap guns. All day, about 3 days a week in the summer. Shooting it up, rolling around other peoples' lawns, hopping fences, etc.
-We took all day long bicycle rides as far as our fookin legs could pump our full sized 26" ballon tired Schwinns.
-Dodge Ball was the best inside "gym" game: we always bombed the punks and girls we didn't like, lol!
-We had to be in by "dark", which meant streetlights on: that was nearly 9:45 PM, in high summer in Detroit.
-We often left our lil'crap box houses in the am and did not come home until dark. Mom never worried.
-The Sat matinee was 25Cts for 12 and under and another 25Cts bought all the snacks one could consume.
-Cops, firemen, mailmen, et al, were the "go to" guys if we needed help.
-There were no wackos that I knew of; we heard of some, but it was hush-hush and not to be discussed.
Those were the days...
