I think the more the sensors, etc the easier it is to diagnose, isn't it? My '97 E39 had a failed fuel pump and it was difficult to diagnose since it has no sensor/module for that component. DIS/INPA indicated all was well as no code was thrown or exists for fuel pump on the E39.
