Being a stickler for non-China items, I found it suprising to see the quality/materials of the USA produced ShopVac units. ShopVac is made with plastic that is hard/brittle, materials I would expect to see in a "bargain bin" at ToysRUs. Mold flash with RAZOR sharp edges!!!

The Ridgid units are produced with what seems to be a GRN (glass reinforced nylon) material (hoses, housing & tools), no mold flash sharp edges & WAY stronger then the ShopVac material. I would NEVER attempt standing on a ShopVac, it would shatter.

Got sick of the wheeled tube style vacs, falling over when tripped by the power cord and wailing like a toddler who skinned his knee. Also, short hoses that have the vacuum banging the back of your ankles, you spend more time kicking it away then cleaning!

Ridgid got it right, a stationary unit that stores all parts internally, fits on a garage shelf and transports well. I can put it 5' behind the rear bumper of the X and vacuum the entire interior without moving it.
