One option, rather than replace the whole transmission, is to just replace the torque converter. The lock-up clutch friction plate may be worn to the extent that the control system is unable to limit the speed difference across the clutch (to 3%) in ‘continuous slip’ mode.









Of course the downside of going this route is that if it does turn out to be the transmission at fault you’ll end up removing it from the vehicle twice.
