For what it's worth - I replace about 20 +/- expansion tanks a year on Freightliner trucks. Some with as little as 15K miles. (Thin plastic, compound, high temp & high pressure are to blame??) I'm also looking at the deteriorating windshield molding on my BMW that was replaced 3>4 years ago. Just before my valve stem seals and alternator gasket seal(s) were replaced. (german plastic/rubber parts - gotta love them)
