Good Holidays Spirit, TECN1K!
Long time ago, in a far away life/woikin career, I spent many a holiday weekend, (25 years worth), somewhere else, inc T'Day, Xmas, Hanukkah, Easter, Passover, Yom Kippur, Shavuot, Rosh Hashanah, and many Kidz birthdays, anniversaries, et al. Just a lot of time...
I put blinders on mentally, and just sucked it up, but we are all human and a product of our culture, so it tends to gnaw at one, subconsciously, no matter how we deal with it on the Pollyanna surface, imo.
No lecture intended; we all do what we have to/like to do, but having turned in carrying the bag back in 2000, my
only regret is the time spent and the time(s) lost, chasing those tasks, even though they allowed me to bail at 53.
I like your tree/home away from home 'scene', and I empathize, and your post exudes good spirit and positivism.

Get Home and enjoy your Fam. It is all we really have, in the end.
