Great to find my very same question being asked. I am 93k miles toward the 100k/ 7 year extended warranty expiration, and just not sure if I have reliable long term service expectations, especially from a first year US model diesel. I love the X5 overall, and the diesel mileage. But I tow a 5000lb/2200kg travel trailer as well - and would hate to have a vacation breakdown, with caravan in tow. It does the pulling job very well, but has also had two long distance, unexpected service needed, interrupted journeys without trailer.

Also, just got the active DEF tank temp sensor CEL recurring. Shop estimated about a US $1k repair, to replace the whole tank. So just curse the DEF system like most diesel owners, and then carry on?
