I had factory nav and there were 2 factory mounting points there already. Not sure if non nav X5's have the holes already. You could always drill a small hole and use some of those speaker catch screw clamps of yours doesn't.

No mounting (friction fit) works great but if you get rear ended... that's when you'll wish you had figured a way to secure the head unit. Would see it happen from time to time as an installer.
