In my case, changing the just the boot was WAY easier than changing the whole axle, as I was unable to remove the CV joint from the hub, but I could (relatively easily) remove the shaft from the joint, while the CV joint was still attached to the hub.
I've done about a dozen CV boots on various cars now and each one has had it's little tricks and problems!
