Took me over 10 years to find my MSport. In my early 20's, just starting my IT career, I sat in one at the NY International AutoShow in 2002 and fell in love. Want. When the E60 debuted 2004, I was so thoroughly disgusted, I vowed that one day, I'll find my pristine 2003 540i/6 MSport. The M5 was always a dream, but I remained practical.
I searched and searched, but living in the northeast always yielded high mileage rust buckets. I never gave up, receiving email alerts from autotrader, cars.com, ect on a monthly basis for
years. Then, that damn article on
Jalopnik in Nov '14 made it f'n impossible, because the cat was out of the bag and everyone was onto them.
It wasn't until last spring when mine finally came along. A lifetime San Diego, one owner car, low miles, folder full of dealer receipts.
The story gets even better, through complete randomness, the dealer was a guy I went to High School and played football with, back in NY. Talk about a small world.
