The new stops do have a spring loaded end, I've confirmed. you can't tell from the photos.

I went ahead and ordered mine and installed them last week.

You have to use a 30mm socket for the nut that holds them in the body of the car.
Take off each of the rear covers in the trunk (subwoofer on the right, stereo components on the left).
I loosened the plastic rear trim on each side, taking out two screws and gently pulling the rear hatch surround trim plastic away so that I could access the nuts for the hatch stops.
