I was in the same boat as you...just drive as many variations as you can. Keep in mind that in addition to slight styling updates, the 2004 has slightly more hp, gets better mileage and I believe is the first year that has the VANOs and Xdrive (I hope that is, right..I understand that forum members with less than 500 posts get summarily executed for spreading mis-information, just a heads up).

However, the value curve is likely in a 2003 with less than 45,000 miles and a CPO or extended warranty. I hear the 2003 has lots of improvements (like better window actuators and A/C issues, as mentioned above). The best advice you have gotten from the other posts regards warranty--make certain you are either in warranty, have a CPO, or the car qualifies for an extended warranty (no chips or mods). As far as Sport vs non, personal preference...the sport seats and ride is pretty hard after 300 miles, but the handling is great. And if you buy private party or non-CPO, have a BMW dealer do a pre-inspection...it's rudimentary but gives you some clout if you get the run around later on.. Have fun...I looked hard at the RR Sport but I'm glad I went BMW.
