We were in Fort Worth for the opening weekend of the stock show in January and got to watch the horses/wagons parade. They had a bit of a flag controversy, but the Texas Republic still honors its origins : a couple of groups were carrying the Gonzales flag - in 1836?, it was a handmade flag by local ladies for the militiamen who opposed the Mexican Army's attempt to retrieve the cannon [6 or 9 pounder] the militia had been given to help ward off Comanches. Its a cannon on a plain background with the phrase, as best I recall, "Come and Get It". The Mexican Army didn't. ..... God Bless Texas!
