Oh I do have the speaking button on the steering wheel. I'll try that and let you know. I swapped out the ulf module in the rear cargo under the cd changer. Same connections just a newer ulf. I got a message sayiing activate phone and then my phone would scan for Bluetooth but not see it. Maybe I have to use a scanner to activate Bluetooth? Did you try the pairing instructions that were given in post #3 above? You referred to the R/T button which was already mentioned to be the WRONG button for pairing if you have the integrated TCU BT module that was installed after 10/04 production along with the aforementioned option packages.
If you have the newer TCU...you shouldn't have to push any buttons on the car to initiate pairing...you turn the ignition to position 1 or 2...then open the BT setting on your smartphone...for the next few minutes...your X5 should appear on the list of devices you can connect with. When your BMW appears on your smartphone ...select it then proceed to enter the TCU's PassKey code as prompted by your SMARTPHONE.
