Good day all!!!
Just about ready to start on the motor... I also need to fire up my pressure washer today... That engine bay needs a serious bath!!

This way get you plenty of room to manoeuvre stands and jacks.
Nevertheless....Awesome work!

I did think about doing that, but I don't have a catch tank to pull the Freon out of the A/C system. I don't break the system open, so the A/C will still work when I'm done.

That is kinda what I ended up doing. Usually all it takes is a good push on a pry bar and maybe a little tap with anything to align the ring. Not so with BMW. On the driver side, I ended up putting the pry bar in place and hitting it rather hard with the 2.5 LB hammer I have. Same for the other side, but I used my small pry bar as an extension from underneath...
I actually figured the half shafts were the same between left and right... And there was an extension piece that went through the oil pan... So, I feel sorry for the one that has to replace the right side half shaft!!! That thing is probably twice as much as the left side!

Good luck with your project. Please keep up with updates.

I did that to my 2001 just as you described to check the splines (they were good), but this one would not allow the drive shaft to slide back into the T-case. I wonder if the splines on this one are buggered up? That would ruin my week for sure!! I was actually hoping the updated the design for 2004 and that was the reason it wouldn't move back into the T-case... I better go check that first thing this morning!!!
Thanks all!! I'll keep the updates coming!!
