I know this is resurrecting an old post, but I could not resist. I too have an E53 X5 3.0i MY01, that had the oil pan gasket blow. I know, could it have been the OFH, well, the only real way of testing is with a use of dye in the oil. The OFH did have a weeping leak, but definitely the OPG was the culprit. But low and behold, I also had the stupid high pressure power steering line leak from the mid-crimp on the hose and the low pressure return line of the power steering reservoir leak at the band crimp into the hard line. So to be sure this was going to cost me my home, my right leg and my first born. But luckily, I have a cool indy mechanic in my area and he charged me just $1K for all the work, plus taxes. Christ, I am glad I found him. Meanwhile, like our illustrious leader Bill Clinton, I feel your pain, when it comes to costs for stupid jobs like an oil pan gasket replacement. These Bimmers, I love, but sometimes, you gotta scratch your head when reviewing the way Germans think when they engineer something.
