Yes you need to read it with GT1/DIS software - the fault in the module must be cleared by using BMW software or the message will remain.

The compressor probably works fine, but based on the age of your truck, it is not pumping up within the spec of the module and probably the seal needs a rebuild with one of those kits. The compressors never actually fail, they just get worn out over time and the EHC module is looking for a specific pressure hold from the compressor, if it see less than that spec, it will throw a fault.

If you scan it and get EHC 74 Pressure Accumulator Filling Requested or something to that effect, that is the code for a weak compressor. Rebuild it with a bagpipingandy or VW Wabco repair kit, and then clear the faults in the EHC module.
