You can get the latest ncsdummy from the link above. Yes, the tutorial is somewhat intimidating going into too much detail right in the outset. He probably should have had an initial section narrating how to quickly get started, much like how great electronics equipment setup manuals are organized- a quick setup instructions section followed by a section with detailed setup instructions with customizations etc.
