Very interesting. Have you looked at removing the DPF bits from inside the unit while leaving the CAT part alone? Put in a collector and then straight pipe where the DPF was (pack with glass wool or rock wool for sound deadening). . Then weld it back up (open from the top so it's less noticeable).
This way you're it's not a stink bomb and you're solid against anyone nosing around while still getting rid of the DPF bits.
