1 side is able to be removed from removing the wheel and dropping it through the wheel well after removing the fender liner, the other side is blocked by oil hoses though.
you should just use the 3m stuff and then use some UV resistant clear.

Thanks for this info. It sounds like a PITA. I've changed the lens cover on my old E46 and it was pretty easy. Didn't realize it involved all this for E70. Guess I will just stick with restoring the lens with 3M every year.
