Update

Ok

So I now have these codes stored:

P0011, P01341, P01343, P01345, P01347, P01349

They are related to misfires on Bank 1 (Fuel cut-off shut down by the ECU) and P0011 is timing advance too far

At this point, based on searches, there seems to be 2 possibilities:

1) The VANOS solenoid on BANK 1 is defective... this is a distinct possibility as the truck had not been driven for 2 years... I am making a tool to go remove the solenoid to inspect its operation... No 32mm socket I have found locally is deep enough to go remove it so I'm making one.

2) If it's not the solenoid, then it is likely the chain guides have deteriorated and the looseness in the chain is what's causing the timing to go too far advanced...

So far I have:

- changed the oil and air filter

- changed all four o2 sensors as they had never been changed so I suspected them initially

- I have a spare engine so I stole four coil packs from it and replaced all four on bank 1

- also stole the CPS off of the spare engine and replaced the bank 1 cps sensor

- replaced all four spark plugs on bank 1

- Had a smoke test done to verify no vacuum leak was causing the problem

- Verified the temperature sensor works and reports proper coolant temperature

Does it make sense the VANOS as being the culprit?
