I took the X5 on a flatbed to the dealer today for a diagnostic of my mysterious Bank 1 misfire issue and the service advisor called me with a "Sorry to tell you, but you need a new engine" as they found metal filings in the oil filter and refuse to do any other work as they don't know the source of those filings.

Could this be that the chain guides have disintegrated and the chain is loose and scraping against something?
