While it's common to jack it via the rear diffy....I recall reading a blurb somewhere that stated that it's not good to jack up via the rear diffy.
While there are aluminum cooling fins on the rear diff that may well be fragile, it is possible to jack from the steel portion of the diff (painted black) just forward of the cooling fins.

I used the rear diff and the front center point as recommended by this article when I changed brake pads this weekend, and they both worked fine. I used the lower pivot points--again described in the link above--to place my jack stands.
