the auxillary water pump located under the power steering fluid reservoir.
clearly hard to replace given the location, ugh!

I really need to know from my fellow e70 4.8i (non turbo) brothers, when you drive your x5 and get it fully warm, then you stop the car do you hear this pump running, apparently runs for 10+ minutes off and on?

I hear nothing!
