If the OP has the N62 V8, adapative bi-xenon headlights, and headlight washers...it will be easier to remove the front bumper. Those little washer jets prevents the headlight on the left side) from being able to move forward enough to easily change the HID DS2 bulb.

I believe those with the M54 I6 engine can do it much easier...even with the headlight washers...but if you have the V8...its very tight, frustrating, and you have to work blind to get to several of the torx screws to undo the cover from the bulb (urggggg!)

Not until we know more about the OPs vehicle...we all are guessing at some of the things they want to accomplish.
