My October Saga continues. To date:

Fun fact - the new rims didn't fix the vibration, but the transmission shop found my ball joints were bad. I guess I have an extra set of rims now.

Your voltage regulator might be bad and not the alternator. And it may be the relay for the smart changing system. I know this because I have an n62 in my 545i and am dealing with the same thing. I have the relay coming and will replace that first, and if it is not that it is the voltage regulator.
