It was down to the iBus signal as stated in this thread so many thanks to that. looks like a broken wire which was fixed and all working now.
Now on to the telephone bluetooth from what I have been told seems like its the module in the back everything else checks out but the unit will not go into pair mode even with the MBW scanner software.

Bring this from the dead, but any idea of what the actual iBus signal wire is and where to find it?
My X3 has a similar issue, the passenger side works without issue. The drivers side if I press the switch nothing happens - no lights at all. I have a feeling it might be this exactly as you have but I am unsure where to find this signal wire to check?
