i honestly don't get y it would be illegal.
BMW doesn't charge for firmware upgrades,
nor does any other hardware manufacturer
that i know of. Bios upgrades for PC are free
to download, firmware for cell phones, etc.
if there was a charge for the upgrade, as there
is a charge for NAV Maps, i could understand.
