Thanks wpoll,
Yes, I knew about the 2 year warning clock for the brake fluid change.........I just got a 'little' late in performing doing the job! It just goes to show that you should follow the recommended fluid changes roughly in line with the recommendations.

Anyway, just as another comment/input re the brake/DSC warning light that may have some relevance:
During the few months that I had the warning/failsafe mode problem, the car also once threw up a p1500 engine code, which means throttle/idle stuck open. It also can trigger the p1500 code if there is an air pressure imbalance in the engine or air intake system.
So, I looked for evidence of any air leaks. The only suspicion I saw was a tiny oil leak from the side of valve cover seal. Before replacing the old seal, I decided to simply over-tighten the valve cover bolts by 1/4 turn. The oil leak stopped and the p1500 code disappeared.
I suspect the code was triggered by the engine ventilation system losing pressure at the valve cover gasket.
I have seen elsewhere in these forums that a p1500 code may also trigger a brake/DSC warning problem. I wonder if this was also related to my problem??
