Not such a huge worry thanks to all that responded and assured me it should do no harm.

Probably bothers me more that I made such a stupid mistake!
I first fit the O-ring on the tube but it was getting stuck that last 1/4 inch. I puled it out and thought maybe the O-ring sits on the ridge of that hole about an inch in. I tried to fit it on that ridge, it twisted and fell in.

I reused the the old O ring, fit on the tube first and forced it in.

I will fish for it every time i change the oil.
