Emulator is the key! otherwise nothing will work. You have to trick the NBT to think its in a Fseries and then it will work. Nothing will turn on without the emulator.

I just came back from Hasbrook NJ after picking up the X yesterday. It had a messed up CCC or soda stuck controller......
All the more reason to NBT retrofit.
