On my car 2006 diesel the auto wipers need to be activated each time you start the car. Move the stalk to POS 2 and then a quick move to POS 3 and back to POS 2 the wipers will wipe twice and then your good to go. On my wife's Honda the are truly automatic . Hope this helps.
