I've always felt like the cradle-based mounts were too big of a hassle while driving. Phones have never fit in the well for me, and then adjusting to get them out and back in has always lead me to stop using them.

I'd still give a magnetic mount a shot if you have never used one. It's a pretty inexpensive test.
