It is actually likely to crack as it ages due to amount of oil from crank case ventilation that passes through it. The rubber was designed for gas, not hot oily mixture that was actually passing through it.

That pipe in my 35d failed last November for that reason.

I wasn't going to pay $220 for a piece of rubber (the price is high because cannot buy just the pipe - have to purchase with sensor), so found a good generic graded replacement at local racing shop.
