The eight pop rivets sound like the retainers for the actual windscreen scuttle and are not the correct parts.

If they are 51218205295 and look like this...



...then they are the wrong part.

I don't think you can buy the quarter turn spring clips (basically, BMW's plastic version of a Dzus fastener) separately - they appear to only come with a complete cover assembly.

Looks like there are six of the retainers pre-fitted to the new cover.
