Today was a whole day with no clicks, clunks or clonks from the steering, so it certainly seems to have done the trick. Previously, changing direction on the steering wheel quickly when reversing I could feel and hear a small amount of play in the steering column - maybe about 2-3mm at most (on the diameter of the steering wheel).
I'm hoping that it doesn't come back but it all seems too easy somehow (i.e. it was a free repair!!).
