If you are replacing lights, why don't you just use the ones that are powering the existing lights?

That was what I originally tried to do. I actually cut off the old LED and wired the new one to the existing wires with wire nuts. But it must not be providing 12V of power or maybe I was just not doing something right, because I couldn't get the new LED to light up no matter what I did.
