Yes BMW considers oil usage normal. My 4.8 engine uses oil, I'm not happy that it does, but it's not excessive so I'll agree it's "normal".

Since you provided zero stats, I can't say right away if it's normal. If you're down to halfway in 100 miles, not normal. Halfway in 3k, that's normal. I'm on pace for a quart per 5k, mainly city driving.

BMW considers something ridiculous like a quart per 600 miles normal, and I think that's for NA. Turbos may consume more. If you actually got a new engine, oil usage will be higher as everything settles in. If it's rebuilt, and your oil usage is too high, then something may be suspect.
