From the chart above...H8 & H9 refers to the battery's (DIN) size. Take note that each battery class has a DIN...then look at the lengthspecs on the right side of the chart and note how the size changes.

Similar to in-dash radios...there are single and double DIN openings...double DIN is twice the size as a single DIN.

And in the back of my head...DIN was some German acronym that represented the opening size in the dash...but the actual meaning of the acronym escapes me at this point.

BTW...I went looking for images of the e70 X5's battery compartment...and I can't find anything that shows a close enough image to see if there's room for a longer battery once you remove the cover.

In the e53 X5...the H9 won't fit...the compartment is not quite long enough...but my e38 & e39 had no issue with either the H8 or H9 battery's length...there was room to accommodate either size...in fact there were 3 battery hold down locations.

{e38 battery compartment - you can see an additional battery hold down hole to the right of the battery which can accomodate an H8 or H9 battery}

{e53 battery compartment - no room for an H9}

When you remove the battery cover on the e70...is there an additional battery hold down location? Is there room for a longer battery even when the cover is put back? (hopefully your fellow e70 X5 owners will chime in)
