It's just a display, some buttons and metric crap-tonne of computer circuits. There's only power and a data bus connected to it. Something in the unit is causing activity on the data bus that causes either this unit or another unit to stay awake and use power. It would take careful analysis of the data bus and each data packet to determine the exact cause.

That's a good point. Like mentioned above liquid got into the electrics under the arm rest and caused a similar problem. Replacing the dash unit may not help although I think he said he unplugged it (removed from dash) and the parasitic drain went away. Anxiously awaiting the result
