Output Shaft slid out of Differential

While replacing the passenger side rear axle ball bearing at the swing arm, I accidentally let the wheel carrier drop too far down and it resulted in the output shaft sliding out of the differential about 3 inches, not all the way out as the flange splines were not visible. I pushed it back in and the joint between the differential and the output shaft now looks like the driver side - it's all the way in now. While sliding it back in, I didn't hear the snap ring snap into place. Or may be it didn't snap out? Should I be worried?

Thanks!
