Okay here's the latest on my '08 4.8i...
Couple of weeks ago my 9 year old battery finally had enough. Replaced it with a new AGM from O'Reilly's and successfully registered it with Carly Pro.
The next week while my wife and I decided to go on a little weekend trip, lost all power 60 miles from home. All the various items started coming up on the i-drive (AWD failure, Trans failsafe, etc...), dash lights and then no power at all. Not much fun to break down at 0400 on the side of the freeway and wait two hours for a flatbed tow truck with zero power except to barely flash the hazards. All the telltale signs of alternator failure.
Look up on realoem.com and find my replacement 220 amp alternator as I have the automatic 4 zone climate control and lucky to find rebuilt at Autozone. Just had to wait until the end of the day to pick it up. Sunday morning install the alternator in 2.5 hours (very happy it went so well and quick) recharged the battery and fires right up like nothing happened.
But then have a message that the oil level sensor isn't functioning. Scan with Carly and get a host of errors (listed below) that I attribute to the alternator loss. Clear the errors, 3 wouldn't clear (A559 Instrument Cluster "Shutdown", 2EA0 Oil Sensor, A83A Gear Switch "unknown fault") but also have the "service" symbol appearing at shutdown.
The other errors (again listed below have re-appeared twice in a few days after clearing but are odd as the alternator is putting out between 13.9 and 14.4 volts without issue. Also took a 1,000 mile trip with my wife this past weekend (the same one we tried the week before when the alternator died) and didn't have any problems. Just these damn codes returning.
What I am hoping is that someone had dealt with this too and know what to reset to correct. I have INSTA/P and INSTA/D available too, but I'm not an expert in their use.
Here are the codes from Carly and were there after the alternator replacement and have re-appeared once:
Code Description
2EA0 oelzustandssensor
2EB8 IBS Missing
2EBC Oil Sensor Missing
2EBD BSD-Nachrict vom Generator fehlt
2E97 Generator
Any help is greatly appreciated. If this were my E38 I'd disconnect the battery and connect the cables together to reset the entire system. Don't think that would be wise in this circumstance.
