COMPRESSION TEST RULES?

Thinking of testing compression before tackling the intake manifold removal.
I have an old starter switch gun I used on an E30 valve adjust. It worked great. Can I just remove the Fuel Relay to avoid pumping fuel? And would I hook the starter switch up the same way? Solenoid and ground? What is the range of dry and wet / drip down PSI I should be getting? This motor is 233,478 miles. Thanks. For the record, still runs great, 33K miles after DVanos and mpg is good, not burning oil and still accelerates smooth and quick, but I do need to update CCV and some hard to reach vacuum lines.
