Similar to what this guy ran into I bet.

My car is a 99 or 00 with 4:3 display, dsp and nav unit in the trunk. tHe nav unit died and all I get is a blank screen with some lines on the 4:3 display, the amp shuts off after 1-3 minutes.
I changed the dsp code with ncsexpert from "bordmonitor" to "mid_basis" and now the aamp no longer shuts off!
I never change the radio station, have a phone and never used the nav so I really dont care about it working or want to spend 150 $ to get a new useless nav unit

Since you have nav and are removing the factory nav unit your still going to run a wire to do what the guy in the video link did to turn the amp "on". The difference is after the ncs editing it will stay on after the editing.
The apps coding of things seems to be patched in memory from what I can tell. Thus if you set something in it on the coding screen and then don't run the app at crank up time the changes are not there. From what I read on the german site last night the app sends this coding at boot time. Again I am guessing as I don't have a dsp to experiment with.... yet. I am working on solving that
