Hoping to revive this thread.

Im having the same issue as Photographus

Keen on just running this past you guys before I get the module replaced.

I have been having trouble starting my 2008 E70 3.0d diesel lately. Problem has just become worse and worse.
Crank, but wont start.
Take the key out, wait 30 seconds, try again.
Sometimes it took up to 5 tries, and it would work.
Throws all kind of errors before it eventually starts: 4x4 and DSC fail, active steering, fuel pump fail. A couple of times the engine check light and that would stay on until the next positive start.
Eventually after a long cold night outside I just couldn't get it started.

Since these repetetive power off, ignition on cycles had worked in the past, it made me think that there was an issue with diesel delivery from the tank to the HPFP. Actually going outside and listening to the LPFP when pressing ignition(with no pressure on the brake), you can hear the pump start, then this gurgling sound as the diesel is pushed forward. This continues for say 5-10 seconds and you can hear the flow of diesel in the return lines eventually becoming free of air.
In the past, after several of these receptive cycles, the glow plug preheat would light up and the engine would start. Only once did it stall afterwards.

Had it pushed into the garage, and since I was planning on changing the diesel filter, I gave it a try.
Before connecting the outlet hose, I got the ignition on to force the fuel tank pump to start.
Good pressure into the bucket, so killed it pretty fast.
Wanted to try to start the engine, just for grins. Guess what. It started. Did it 3 more times, and it started each time. Hmmmm. That is just too easy a fix. Back to normal. No error codes.

So let the car sit for about an hour. (Have the battery on charge since the constant cranking starts have drained it somehow.
Next engine start is unsuccessful. Again unable to get it back to life and the dash is full of the error messages again........

Im trying to figure out if this problem is related to any of the 2 fuel tank pumps, or if it is the EKP module. Just understanding how the siphon and electric pump works could maybe help this.
Right now I am at 1/4 fuel tank. So that could explain the air gurgling when ignition is selected on. Never heard that really before(not so easy from inside the car), so that points to either one of the pumps. Then again, why would the dash go off like X-mas tree just because of a bad pump.
Taking that into the consideration points to the EKP module......

Worth mentioning that I experienced the no starting issue a couple of times earlier this year, like twice. One engine stall going out of the garage.

Last month had the car stall on me on the highway when accelerating. Happened three times, and just nursed the car home. Icarsoft showed bad injector nr 6. Showed the typical water damage from the cracked partition. Replaced the whole lot with Overhauled ones. Changed the glow plugs and controller while in there, since I had error message on all plugs. Car worked fine after this repair for about 14 days, and the engine was preforming great on the Autobahn. The only difference I notice was a bit longer crank. Nothing else.

The Icarsoft doesnt see any error messages now. I have tried accessing the DDE and DME when the car wont start, but the Icarsoft just can access it. As soon as the car starts, access is granted and I can read out the fuel pressures and watch the live stream.

Im on the road at work for the next 3 weeks, so I get some time to figure out what parts to order. Im just not sure taking the fuel tank apart and changing the pumps will fix this issue. The error codes points to the EKP.
BWTHDIK.

Any help from you guys would be appreciated.
